I haven’t seen all the Harry Potter movies. I think I saw the first one, well part of it anyway. Since then its been a similar affair. I catch 20 minutes of one when its on the movie channels. But I suppose that fails in comparison to the books. I have refused point blank to read the books over the years. The idea of broomsticks and little geeky young fellas have never floated my boat. But thats just me. J.K. Rowling has cleaned up as have the movie studios and they will continue to clean up.
So whats the story within the Half Blood Prince? I cant really explain what the story is about. Its to do with finding out who some bloke called the Riddler is, or something. And that's the issue with the movie. For non fans it is an absolute disaster. You have no idea what's going on, as its quite heavy on dialogue and character development and there’s not enough action to keep your interest. Unless the thought of young men grabbing broomsticks like giant wooden penises and flying through the air like a bunch of outcasts from Top Gun floats your boat. So dont expect to walk into this and enjoy it as a non Potter fan.
Now, toward the end of the movie, I did finally get dragged in and enjoyed about 4 minutes and that was it I’m afraid. As a piece of film the whole thing looks quite well, with some of the special effects being superb. The acting is a bit wooden at times and the pacing is quite slow, with very little of true entertainment value. But I’m sure for the million of Potter fans they will love it and will be highly entertained. For the rest of us though, if you want to develop a deep, passionate hatred for broomsticks then by all means go see it. Otherwise, avoid like a monkey who is in a highly agitated state.
