Story Outline:
Two people try to navigate the novelty, rut and routine of a relationship in transit.
Character profiles:
Walter
Male, aged 20 - 30
Walter is a well-meaning screw up. He is bemused by the world he lives in and counters this with a childish facade. He has a lack of major motivation, apart from vague unrealised dreams of escapism. His only major romance before Cassie was with a girl called Maria, who he has now known for years. He wants things to work out with Cassie, and she seems to balance him out, to be good for him, and they really care about each other. However, he is also quite emotionally immature, and has fairly substantial underlying self-destructive tendencies. He is sweet in nature, but damaged. In the end, its his self doubt, his selfishness, and not knowing what he wants which puts the relationship in jeopardy. His inner motivation - to avoid loneliness - is pursued in a terrible way. He lets his past with Maria interfere with his present happiness with Cassie.
Michael
Male, aged 20 - 30
Michael lives with Walter in a basic apartment, where they spend most of their time lazing around drinking and watching T.V. They have been friends since school and have become each other’s family. There is an understanding between them, and a comfortable co-dependance. Michael is someone who knows Walter better than Walter knows himself. He recognises Walter's motivation in an intuitive way that lets him know when he's making mistakes in his search for happiness.
Cassie
The role of Cassie has been cast.
