It was big news yesterday as Guillermo Del Toro left the Hobbit behind him. So obviously that leaves a gaping hole as to who will plonk their arse into the directors chair. The Dominion Post in New Zealand is reporting that Peter Jackson is saying he will step in and direct if it becomes to only way to ensure the film will be made.
But as these things go and directors are tied into many projects years in advance, that may prove difficult for Peter Jackson. "If that's what I have to do to protect Warner Bros' investment, then obviously that's one angle which I'll explore. But stepping in as director would be difficult as he had signed writer and director contracts with Hollywood studios for two other films, with one likely to begin next year. "The other studios may not let me out of the contracts."
