HEREAFTER
While I haven't seen Hereafter, much excitement has been made about it’s opening “big wave” scene. But surely, one big epic scene doesn’t mean a golden bald man? So we can cast that one out I reckon. Iron Man 2, while it features some fantastic scenes, probably doesn’t have enough to spur it over the line in first position.
The same goes for Potter and I’d actually toss Potter out before Tony Stark. Alice in Wonderland, while it was let down enormously by a shoddy 3D conversion looked absolutely epic. A complete new world created and it had tonnes of variety, so that for me would certainly be a runner. The same goes for Tron Legacy as visually it was stunning, but it got a bit bland and boring after the initial wow factor. Essentially a one trick pony, but still a runner.
Inception and Scott Pilgrim, personally for me, are up the top of the list. Pilgrim was immensely stylised and while the effects were off the wall completely, they were very subtle and immersive at the same time. Plus, alot of the effects, subtle or otherwise had never been seen or utilised in that way before. The same goes for Inception, where Nolan and co more or less re-invented the wheel for some spectacular sequences, again, many fresh and different. I’d love to see Scott Pilgrim get it, but Inception might just pip it! What do you think?
