Oliver Stone is one of those directors that generates so much interest no matter what he's planning that it's quite easy for him to get away with making utter crap on the strength of his name and history - the reviews and success of Wall Street 2 only prove that (although, I liked it). Alexander, for all it's ambition, was an over-indulgent and seriously disappointing film too, probably his most high-profile flop of recent times. But still, you can't deny that whilst erratic, the man has talent. I like him too, as he has that old-school director style about him. He usually only makes the movies he wants to make, whether or not you care about watching them, and has a great eye for casting.
His next feature, 'Savages', certainly looks promising. Based on a novel that tells the story of two good-time drug using friends who get caught up in some not-so-good serious drug business, Savages sounds like it'll be a nice change of pace from the more serious political fare that Stone has made his own special niche (for better or worse). Better yet, it has a topnotch cast too! Salma Hayek, Benicio Del Toro, Blake Lively, Uma Thurman and John Travolta are all on the lineup.
Oh yes indeed, Uma and John reunited at last! Of course I assume you've all blocked 'Be Cool' from your memory, so it will be great to see them on screen again, and indeed even more comparisons with Pulp Fiction as that had a pretty memorable drug scene....
Savages starts filming soon, and should see release in 2012 all going smoothly. Which is fifty fifty.
