Brick was a fantastic film, a really well done noir-esque thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The director Rian Johnson followed that up with the equally good Brothers Bloom, which didn't get the attention it deserved. Now though, it looks like he's going to get some more widespread exposure following the release of his next film, Looper.
Reuniting with Gordon-Levitt and also featuring Bruce Willis of Bruce Willis fame, Johnson's third film is a time-travel thriller about a future mob who send targets back in time for assasins to get rid of them before they cause any trouble. Gordon-Levitt plays a current day assassin teaming up with his future self, Willis, to fight off the mob. The great Emily Blunt also stars, and now /film are reporting that the movie has been bought at Cannes by FilmDistrict, meaning that we can now expect to see it within the year. No release dates just yet, but it's great to see what sounds like another original sci-fi film get the go-ahead for our cinemas. Here's to more of that!
