The follow up to the massively successful (financially and critically) Star Trek seemed to be slightly edging into development hell for awhile there. Months ago we heard from writer/producer Roberto Orci that the script was nearly complete, only for solid information to come later revealing it's actually no where near complete. Not to mention that it's presumed director (J.J. Abrams; director of the original) has said he won't sign on until he sees a complete script.
This morning, Orci spoke with Trek Movie to offer some clarification on the status of Star Trek 2. In response to the script's status, the writer explains, "Just been waiting for JJ to be free to really decide if he likes the story and hear his suggestions before we finish the script. Once he says go, we’ll have it in no time. Meanwhile, our outline is detailed enough (70+ pages!) to do some prep". He then adds, "In the meetings we’ve had with JJ, he’s already given us amazing input and ideas, and that’s been while he’s been up to his eyeballs in Super 8".
So there you have it. When will we finally see Star Trek 2? I have no idea. But I do know Paramount is trying to have it in theaters by June 29th, 2012.
Might wanna get their skates on...
