Wait….what? All the talk up to now about the Avengers has mentioned how the movie, which is now in production, will be shot in 3D in order to deliver a higher quality of picture than we’d see with post-conversions like Thor or Clash of the Titans. 3D King James Cameron has spoken of how shooting in 3D is pretty much necessary unless the film is majorly CGI, and too often do post-coverted movies look crap.
This year there are two tentpole movies being shot in 3D, Pirates 4 and Transformers 3. But now it seems, thanks to a tweet from Mark Ruffalo himself, that the Avengers will be at least filmed in 2D. Does that mean it’ll be a 2D only movie? Doubtful. As Total Film point out, Pirates sold more 2D tickets than 3D but it’s hard to imagine Marvel not at least giving people the option. Post-conversion might not be a disaster considering how fast the technology progresses and how much cgi could be in the movie. It’s an interesting move for them to make but at the end of the day, I trust Joss Whedon.
