
The original is about a Big Man - well, a giant, to be specific - who is supposed to protect Japan from a litany of monster invasions. Trouble is, he's pretty clumsy and a bit out of shape for the job. The movie has become a cult hit in America and now THR report that Columbia have bought the rights and a remake is on the way. Will they take the idea wholesale? I can't say. On the one hand there are loads of interesting monsters in the movie but it's all pretty tongue in cheek, and we know that Hollywood is famously averse to megabudget comedies for fear they'll fall flat. You only need to look at Evan Almighty's box office to see proof. Either way, it'll be interesting to see what they do with the idea. You can check out the original trailer below.
