Whilst Ron Howard might be hard at work developing the gargantuan tv & film Dark Tower project at the moment, fixing the budget to make it viable, there are a few signs that suggest it might be a long time before we see the long-awaited Stephen King adaptation on any type of screen.
Recently he has been linked to a formula one story, and now via Empire comes news that he’s in the running to direct action comedy Spy Vs. Spy. It’s derived from a Mad magazine strip about, well, two spies working against each other. Quite a simple setup really, so you can imagine it leaves a big canvas for the writers to work from. Spy comedies can prove popular too – this year we see the return of Johnny English – so the appeal is obvious here. But what does it mean for Dark Tower? Well, Spy Vs. Spy is only in script stages so could be a while off yet, but it does seem like Howard is preparing a serious backup plan…
