For a while now there have been lots of King Arthur movies in active development, all of them presumably hoping to erase all memory of Clive Owen and Keira Knightley running across some field in Wexford. Bryan Singer was working on ‘Excalibur’ and even Guy Ritchie had one planned. But now comes news that Warner Brothers have taken the guillotine to all of these movies, and instead are going full steam ahead on ‘Arthur & Lancelot’.
Slashfilm report that this is a modern-day retelling that Warner Bros are apparently crazy about, so are concentrating their efforts there. Yes, I said ‘modern-day retelling’. Not only that but it’s written by the same guy who wrote Wedding Crashers and Horrible Bosses – could it be Warners are replacing their period fare with a buddy action comedy? Certainly looks that way. I can already picture the trailer with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson now……
………..I hope I’m wrong. The movie comes out March 15, 2013.
