I think we’ll find life on Mars before they run out of Stephen King books to adapt – he brings out a new one pretty much every five seconds and seems to have been writing since the dawn of man. Surprisingly though, some of his bigger properties haven’t been to the screen yet. Obviously The Dark Tower is firmly in development hell, but now post-apocalyptic story The Stand looks set to appear in a series of movies, developed by David Yates and Steve Kloves – the director and writer of the last few Harry Potters.
The Stand is a huge story, with 99% of the world wiped out, and a hero in the form of Stu Redman going up against the embodiment of evil, Randall Flagg. There is more than enough material for a trilogy, and is apparently being fastracked as Warner Bros looks for a new franchise. Could be good, but if not, there was a decent miniseries in the nineties to watch instead.
