UPDATE: It now seems the LATimes original report was wrong. Director Pete Travis & screenwriter Alex Garland have released a joint statement indicating the two have worked closely together throughout the entire production and that Travis is still an integral part of post-production. Garland has also stated he is not looking for a co-director credit.
Well this is never a good sign...
Reports are flooding the internet that director Pete Travis (Vantage Point) has been kicked out of the editing room for the latest adaptation of 2000AD's Judge Dredd. The film, simply titled Dredd, has a release date pegged for September 2012, but it seems as we've seen no footage, posters or clips, there could be quite a large amount of behind-the-scenes drama. The Los Angeles Times reports that Travis was forced out of his own film after producers and executives overseeing the production were unhappy with the footage Travis was returning to them. Also, it now seems Alex Garland, who wrote and produced the film, will be stepping in to edit and possibly reshoot a portion of the film. He's also chasing a co-director credit, so one can assume the case is dire.
So, Dredd fans, I hate to be the one to say it, but it seems this one is dead in the water.
