Rumours are circulating that Warner Bros. and Robert Downey Jr. are planning a reboot of the classic Perry Mason franchise as a feature film, with Downey Jr. playing the famous fictional defence attorney.
According to Variety, the movie will stay faithful to the original Erle Stanley Gardner books, and will be set in the 1930s and feature key characters such as Mason's secretary, Della Street and P.I. Paul Drake.
Warner Bros. are on the lookout for a writer, whose script will be based on an original story by Robert Downey Jr. and David Gambino.
Mason is a fictional defence attorney who was the main character in Erle Stanley Gardner’s long running crime series. Perry Mason was featured in more than 80 novels and short stories, which should give them plenty of opportunity for a franchise should the first instalment do well.
