X-Men First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are in negotiations to pen the sequel to the 1986 classic. While a follow up to the original has long been rumoured, it looks as though Paramount, and director Tony Scott, are finally ready to feel the need for speed all over again. Very few details have been released, and it's not known what role Cruise's Maverick will play.
Scott has said in the past that the film would follow the development of the pilot into the present day. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer also said that "the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago. So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it."
