I don't think anybody saw this coming. Elijah Wood, star of FX's Wilfred, has been cast in the lead role of Frank Khalfoun's remake of the 1980 schizoid-horror, Maniac. The Lord of the Rings actor will play a serial killer who preys on women after years of abuse from his mad mother. The original William Lustig flick is the epitome of the grindhouse sub-genre and is, by all accounts, an extremely hard viewing experience. Maniac will be produced by Alexander Aja (High Tension, Piranha).
