Gervais confirmed as Golden Globes host
Despite the fact that the comic’s antics last year ruffled more than a few feathers, Ricky Gervais has been confirmed to be hosting the prestigious event. "Yes, Ricky's Back!" Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Dr Aida Takla-O'Reilly announced.
"After weeks of rumours it's finally official - Ricky Gervais will be back to host the Golden Globes."
The association voted unanimously for his return and Gervais is delighted to be back Doug Vaughan, NBC’s senior vice president of special events and late night programming announced that “Ricky is delighted to be coming back” and "He said the Golden Globes show is the most fun he has ever had."
The HFPA admitted that "not everyone is happy with the decision" to bring Gervais back because "his blunt one-liners targeting big-name celebrities caused anger and resentment in some quarters” The comic poked fun at Charlie Sheen, Robert Downey Junior and even Johnny Depp’s movie the tourist. Johnny seemed to take it in good spirits though; he recently made a cameo appearance on Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s new comedy “life too short”. Gervais known for his blunt comedy style and is not afraid to stand on few toes, with Ricky at the helm it’s sure to be one anticipated evening and viewing figures will be expected to exceed last year’s total. The awards will take place on January 15 in Beverly Hills.
