It’s a pretty safe bet to say the Meryl Streep will have an Oscar nomination at the very least out of The Iron Lady, which tells the story of a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world. The story concerns power and the price that is paid for power, and is a surprising and insightful portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman.
So if you’re a Thatcher fan you will be drooling at the mouth here, and if politics isn't you’re thing, you can at least marvel at the transformation of Meryl Streep, who hasn’t really been breaking a sweat when it comes to acting over the last few years, singing and dancing aside in Mama Mia! But it’s not only Streep who takes credit here, check out Jim Broadbent as Denis Thatcher. The makeup crews and casting directors need to take a bow here as well.
The movie opens on January 6th in Ireland & The UK. Granted if you really can’t wait, head for New Zealand. It’s out there on December 26th
