Here is something that is rather cool and a pretty phenomenal piece of publicity for the home release of X-Men: First Class. Jason Flemyng (Azazel) and characters from the film unveiled an interactive First Class pop-up lounge in the main concourse of the station, giving commuters the full X-Men experience. Some pics and video are below!
Intricately recreating the 1960s lounge in the mutants’ X-Mansion hideout, the 25m² pop-up area brought the film to life, with visitors able to sit back on the chesterfield sofas whilst watching the Blu-ray on a 40 inch period style HD TV, relax by the fire place, shop for new titles in the library with hidden QR codes, play chess on an authentic chess set as featured in the films and pose for photos with mutants Mystique and Azazel, made up by a leading Hollywood make-up artist.
During the day, visitors were also able to pick up some mutant skills of their own. Britain’s top mind controller Marc Paul, who has been dubbed the real-life Professor X, gave mind-control workshops throughout the day.
A few facts about this extravaganza
The X-Men First Class pop-up lounge appeared for one day only from 5am in front of the main ticket office in the Victoria Station main concourse area, close to the entrance for the Gatwick Express platform (number 13). It featured:
· Furniture including chesterfield sofas and period coffee table
· Archways cut into the external stone work – period building feature
· 40 inch HD screen in period style TV
· Cut class decanter and heavy whiskey tumblers
· Clear Perspex chess set, as homage to the Professor X versus Magneto scene
· Authentic library of books inspired by Professor Xavier’s genetics studies, also including Fox DVDs and QR codes as point of purchase
