Here's something that could well change the landscape of the Oscars and award shows in general. There is a huge push on for Andy Serkis to get a supporting Oscar nomination for his amazing work in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. The monkey star has long been at the forefront of mo-cap performance (Gollum / King Kong) and surely its about time that its recognised.
Tom Rothman (one of the big wigs at Fox Filmed Entertainment) says ""I think we may be at the place where we will see a first-ever in Hollywood this year, which is to see Andy Serkis get nominated for a best supporting actor for Planet of the Apes, even though his face never actually appears, but his performance appears, so we are going to push that hard."
Personally, I think an award category for motion captured performance (or whatever it might be called) is inevitable. The Academy, while they might seem old and stodgy are certainly starting the move with the times and motion capture performance, cannot be ignored. At the end of the day, it's the actor that gives the performance, not the computer. Computers only do what they're told!
