While it’s been known unofficially for quite some time, its only in the last 24 hours that Warner Bros. have officially confirmed that a six minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises will be shown before IMAX screenings of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Christopher Nolan, who is quite the fan of all things IMAX said “"Our experience on The Dark Knight shooting and projecting IMAX 15 perf 65mm/70mm film was inspiring. The immersive quality of the image goes beyond any other filmmaking tool available, and in revisiting Gotham, we were determined to shoot even more of the movie in this unique format. Giving the fans an early look at an IMAX sequence is a great way to draw attention to what I believe will be an incredible way to experience our story when it comes out next summer.”
December 16th American IMAX cinemas get Ghost Protocol and on December 21st UK IMAX cinemas get the Cruise machine hanging off the worlds tallest building. Alas, the only IMAX cinema in Ireland has closed many moons ago, so unless a quick flight is involved, we won’t be getting it. Invariably, it’ll end up online in an official capacity at some point.
The Dark Knight Rises explodes in a mountain of hype on July 20th 2012.
