In the three years since the last installment of Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, Harold played by John Cho has grown up and become a successful, married, Wall Street Banker and the has lost touch with his old friend Kumar played by Kal Penn. The pair find themselves reunited over a mystery package which is sent to their old apartment. This then sparks the pairs journey to be reunited over the destruction of Harold’s father-in-laws Christmas tree and their quest to find a new one.
Third time running for the duo and it may not be third time lucky for them. It is a festive film in as much as it is based around the time of Christmas, but if you are expecting more that a Christmas special with a great deal of tired gags and racial jokes then this one isn’t really for you. The storyline is a bit disjointed in places and relies a great deal on unsavory yet creative humour that is not to everyone’s taste.
For the most part, the 3D was quite good, giving emphasis to some parts of the film. Some of the graphics, mainly the shattering glass effect had me at one point actually trying to brush it away from my face. 3D seems to be an overused gimmick effect to use at the moment but I believe it was used quite well to add to the over all experience of a somewhat dry movie.
One to watch on a lazy Sunday on the way up to Christmas. It won’t have you hanging on the edge of your seat for the next part but it has some laugh out loud moments and Neil Patrick Harris.
