Fans of the Crow Franchise will be pleased (or perhaps not depending on their point of view)to hear that the long running court case between Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company(TWC) over rights to the movie has been settled out of court. Originally Weinstein lodged an injunction last April, aiming to stop Relatively Media from selling off distribution rights to any other parties.
Relativity hit back, claiming that TWC failed to release details of financial problems concerning the release of 2009’s Rob Marshall musical Nine.
It was claimed that the two parties had a contract that gave TWC exclusive rights to sequels, prequels and remakes which was disputed. Now however the two parties have settled things and had this to say on the matter through a press release “he parties will continue to work on the film together as planned. In addition, Relativity Media has dismissed all of its claims against The Weinstein Company for any wrongdoing regarding the release and distribution of Nine, and The Weinstein Company has dismissed all of its claims against Relativity Media."
Now that matters have been settled the film itself could have further twists and turns given the movie’s dark and bizarre history which has seen the project go through several directors. News on a leading man will obviously have to wait too but names such as Bradley Cooper have been bandied about as well as F Javier Gutierrez who directed The Fall but that has yet to be confirmed. Does the Crow need to be remade? That’s what many fans will now be asking.
