Just picked up the digital issue of Entertainment Weekly who are running great piece on The Dark Knight Rises. So, slight spoiler warnings ahead!Christopher Nolan’s brother, and co writer of the movie, Jonathan Nolan has been speaking about the plot, to some degree. Nolan says “If Batman’s plan was to stamp out crime, the new movie asks: What if the plan actually worked?”. So the story begins eight years later with Bruce Wayne still recovering from the physical and psychological trauma endured by his stamping out of crime. Christopher Nolan also spoke to the magazine saying “The movie deals with the idea that if you’ve papered over the cracks, then you’re just solving problems in a way that may not hold for the future”. The director also spoke about Tom Hardy’s character, Bane saying “I think when people see the film, things will come into focus. Bane is very complex and very interesting, and when people see the finished film they will be very entertained by him.”
Besides dealing with the repercussions of the conspiracy concocted with Commissioner Gordon in the last movie, Bruce Wayne must also repair his relationship with Alfred and Lucius Fox. Theres also mention of some new characters including Joseph Gordon-Levitt who plays a cop and a Wayne Enterprises board member played by Marion Cotillard.
And on a final note, Christian Bale also talked to Entertainment Weekly, about saying goodbye to the character. “My last day in the suit was also the last day of shooting for me. I was in New York, on top of a downtown skyscraper. The day began with Morgan Freeman and ended with Anne Hathaway. I got to say goodbye from within the bat-cowl.” The actor realising it was the last time he would wear the cowl spoke of the significance of what he was doing “It was very quiet, just a couple people there. But in the midst of it I said ‘Hold on a sec. Let me take a moment. This is it. I’m never going to have claustrophobia again!’ So I had to pause. I had to.
So that's that then for Bale and Nolan by the sounds of it. And by the sounds of it, The Dark Knight is going to be absolutely phenomenal. The full article is in the new edition of Entertainment Weekly and is well worth a read, plus it has some very cool photos to boot.
