For any of you reading who have yet to see something in IMAX, you have no idea what you’re missing. For anyone wondering how awesome the format is, imagine a screen that is 72 feet x 52.8 feet (and they can get bigger). Now keep in mind, your average building is roughly 10 feet per story. So you have a gigantic screen that is 7 stories by 5 stories. And don’t forget that IMAX operates at a far higher resolution than standard film, which ensures pristine quality movies. It truly is a mind blowing experience! Christopher Nolan shot parts of The Dark Knight in IMAX and it’s quite obvious to see where the IMAX cameras were rolled in. The same goes for Brad Bird and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
So, for our Irish readers, here’s some really huge news (literally). The Odeon chain of cinemas are to open their first Cineplex in Dublin’s dockland area. The cinema will be part of the Point Village plan, which will encompass a 12 screen theatre WITH AN IMAX SCREEN. The cinema is due to open in March. For more on IMAX, take a peek here. Oh…and it means something else too. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES IMAX. Which means I won’t have to get on a plane to see it on the real big screen.
