There has being much speculation about a second Ghostbusters sequel in the last couple of months, with one of the originals stars and writer of the new project, Dan Aykroyd, becoming a spokesperson of sorts for the project. He maintained that director Ivan Reitman and stars Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis wanted to return, but the future of the project hinged on the involvement of Bill Murray. All reports said Murray didn't want to do the project, saying "No one wants to pay money to see old, fat men chasing ghosts". There were even rumors that he shredded a copy of the script he was given. Aykroyd denied these rumors, saying that Murray held Aykroyd's writing in too high estimation to simply shred it.
Through all this, Aykroyd was adamant that the project would go ahead, but speaking to The Telegraph recently, he has confirmed that Bill Murray won't be part of the project, also adding the future of the movie now looks unlikely. "I honestly don't know", Aykroyd said of the films status, "At this point it's in suspended animation. The studio, the director, Ivan Reitman, and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie. He doesn't want to be involved. He's got six kids, house all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He's into this life and living it. I know we'd have a lot of fun, but I can't be mad at him. He's a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn't want to know".
So is Bill Murray the major draw of the Ghostbuster movies, or would you go see one without him?
