The second instalment of the popular 80’s movie reboot starring Jayden Smith has got a new writer in the form of Zak Penn. Penn will replace the team of Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reif who are perhaps best known for their writing of the Kung Fu Panda movies. It is unknown if Penn who is currently working on SyFy’s series Alphas will rewrite the entire script or work with what is already in place. To date there is no storyline released regarding the picture, in the original second film Ralph Macchio travels with his mentor to the East, given the first film of the re-boot was set in the East the storyline is sure to be very different with some rumours suggesting they may head west in reversal of the original series.
Penn is perhaps best known for his work writing super hero movies with him contributing to two X-men films, the Ed Norton Hulk and Elecktra . The original script by the duo also responsible for Bullet Proof monk was started 18 months ago but with little movement since then Penn has been taken on to finish the job. Jayden’s father the superstar Will Smith is likely to be on board again as a producer and it is hoped Jackie Chan will return to his role for the sequel. The first film made some $300 million at the box office costing $40 million to make. Penn who sold his first script “last Action Hero” when he was just 24 is also a jury member with filmaka a company that offers a platform for undiscovered film makers to show their work to industry professionals.
