Michael Bay is returning to the Transformers franchise. Previously the director said that he was not currently talking to Paramount about subsequent Transformers movies. Well since then, he has been talking and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has officially confirmed that Bay will be directing Transformers 4 which will hit cinemas in Summer 2014 saying “Yeah Michael’s gonna direct and it’ll be releasing in the summer of 2014. We’re excited and I think the challenge there is we really are gonna do a reboot, and what that’s gonna be we don’t even know yet.”
As for the movie itself, well what Bonaventura has to say is quite interesting “Well I mean again it’s hybrid. It’s not the way—I’m not involved with Spider-Man but what I perceive Spider-Man to be is a redoing of the whole thing, [Transformers 4] is not. It’s an evolution. There’s still continuity that’s going on, and yet there’ll be a lot of new cast. Whether there’s anybody from the [original] cast, we don’t even know yet. But the truth is, it’s gonna be a whole new story. The characters that would certainly come along would be Optimus and Bumblebee I’m sure.”
For a second after reading that, I was thinking reboot and going by the producer’s comments to MTV it is in a way. New cast? That can only be a good thing. Le Beouf in my book has always been brutal in these movies and it’s no harm to jettison some of the minor bots as well.
Bay got the first Transformers right, the second one wrong and the third one not bad, so hopefully they’ll get the fourth movie spot on. From the new cast point of view, who do YOU think would make a good addition to the Transformers fourth big screen outing? Dwayne Johnson? Sean William Scott? or how about this…Jamie Bell? Who is a fantastic actor and finally stepping into the limelight. He was the highlight of Man on a Ledge and his digital Tin Tin portrayal was superb.
