MGM, the studio behind the scheduled Robocop reboot, has reportedly offered the lead role to Joel Kinnaman, who most recently appeared in the Denzel Washington spy-flick “Safe-House” and plays the role of Stephen Holder in the hit US tv show “The Killing”.
The role was linked to Michael Fassbender for ages, with no certainty as to whether he was ever offered the part.
The project was once under the stewardship of Darren Aronofsky, who dropped out in favour of other projects.
The film is now being directed by Jose Padhilla whose unspectacular back catalogue includes the Brazillian “Elite Squad” crime dramas.
No plot details or release date are known as yet, however, many, including myself, wonder if the concept will be well received by modern audiences, particularly with the absence of a major box-office name in the titular role, or an established director with proven credentials.
Let’s give it a chance though.
