While I've never seen a Piranha movie beyond Joe Dante's original, the film's 3D remake has made it onto a lot of peoples lists of guilty pleasures. A mix of blood and sex, with the 3D effects in place to heighten both, it showed what happened when a pack of prehistoric Piranha emerge from the sea floor after an earthquake and proceed to devour tourists visiting a lake side resort, Lake Victoria, for spring break. It did quite well in the box office, earning $84 million off it's $24 million budget. It was inevitable we were going to get a sequel (a successful horror movie always gets a sequel), and now we have it: Piranha 3DD. Judging from the title, the makers didn't think anything was broke so they are not fixing it.
Production began in April 2011, and it was supposed to be released last November but was pushed back to 2012. The story is set one year after the original and has the toothy little blighters gaining access to Lake Victoria's plumbing, getting into people's swimming pools and the local water park. It stars Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, and Gary Busey. No release date has been set as of yet.
