Last year it was alien films, now it seems the new Hollywood craze is fairytales, with two Snow White films slated for this year, and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and Jack the Giant Killer hitting in 2013. Now Silent Hill and Brotherhood of the Wolf director Christophe Gans is bringing Beauty and the Beast to the big screen.
Mesrine's Vincent Cassel will play the Beast, a prince cursed to look like a hideous monster, while Lea Seydoux (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) is cast as Belle, the reluctant guest at his castle. Production is expected to begin in October, and Gans' promises a movie unlike anything seen before as he plans to fully "unleash" his imagination, to give the audience "a completely new visual universe". Expect this to be much different than Disney's beloved animated version, and the teen re-imagining Beastly.
