Chloe Moretz to play Carrie. White, not Bradshaw.

Of all the images conjured up by horror movies over the years, the sight of Sissy Spacek's telekinetic loner Carrie White doused in pigs blood, part of the climactic scene in 1976's Carrie, is probably one of the most iconic. Now a remake of Brian De Palma's horror classic, an adaption of Stephen King's first published work, is in the works, with Chloe Moretz locked in for the lead role.

Reported by Deadline, the 15 year old actress, famous for portraying Hit Girl in Kick-Ass, was approached by MGM Studio's and the project's director, Kimberly Pierce (Boys Don't Cry), and offered the role. She wasted no time going onto Twitter to let everybody know she had accepted the part:

Never been so happy in my life! Thank you Kim Pierce and thank u MGM for the chance of a lifetime i will never forget!

I was very wary when this remake was announced. The original, a tale of a young girl dealing with growing telekinetic powers, is a classic and a genuinely scary film. But they have a competent director in Pierce, and Moretz has shown immense talent at such a young age, that I am beginning to warm to the idea. And, anyway, it can't be worse than 1999's Carrie 2: The Rage.
