Coming from the mind of Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Suckerpunch), Man Of Steel is the latest attempt at a Superman re-boot after the Bryan Singers ill received continuation of the Richard Donner films, Superman Returns (which I absolutely loved, by the way). The movie goes back to the beginning, telling the story of how Superman came to Earth from his doomed planet of Kryton, and adding new aspects to the well established mythos.
Henry Cavill takes the role of the Man Of Steel, with Russel Crowe as his father, Jor-El, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane. The villains take the form of two surviving Kryptonians, Faora, played by Antje Traue, and fan favorite, General Zod, with Michael Shannon taking over the role memorably played by Terence Stamp in Donner's Superman 2.
The movie was originally going to be released in December of this year, but Warner Bros. put it back by six months, partly so it wouldn't be in competition with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and also to give the production staff time to put the finishing touches on it. This is Warner Bros.'s next big potential franchise since they have finished Harry Potter and Christopher Nolan's Batman series will end in the summer, and after the disappointing performance of Green Lantern, they're not taking any chances. The marketing campaign for the movie has started with the film's Facebook page giving us our first look at the teaser poster, and the new look Superman 'S'.
