Eighteen years after Clerks, and six years after Clerks 2, director Kevin Smith wants to continue the story of Dante, Randall and the universe that made his name, with a third installment of the series, not as a film, but as a stage play. Speaking at a publicity event for his new book, he let known his idea of a play featuring the characters, but at this stage that is all it is: an idea.
This follows news that he plans to resurrect the short lived Clerks cartoon, cancelled after only 2 episodes were aired, as a weekly internet series. It seems he's sticking with his commitment of retiring from film making, but seems to want to branch out with his established characters in different. An idea I am totally down with. I'm totally biased, been a die hard fan of his, but anything that keeps his work on any type of screen, or stage in this case, is welcome in my book.
