A largely autobiographical telling of his many road trips across America, Jack Kerouac's On The Road is considered the defining work of the Beat Generation, a culture started post-World War Two that promoted, amongst other things, experimentation with drugs, alternative forms of sexuality, and an interest in Eastern religion. The book itself has gone onto inspire many musicians, actors, writers and poets, with Hunter S. Thompson, Tom Waits, and Bob Dylan all citing that it has had a huge influence on their work. The book was used as a template for Thompson's own road novel Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, and films such as Easy Rider and Paris, Texas.
A film version for the film of the book went into production in August of 2010 , with Sam Riely playing Kerouac's alter ego Sal Paradise. Directed by Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries), the film also stars Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Amy Adams, and Viggo Mortenson. A Facebook page for the film has been set up and a poster released, but there is no sign of a release date as of yet.
