Starting off his career on dramas such as George Washington, All The Real Girls, and Snow Angels, director David Gordon Green has transitioned into comedies in recent years with Pineapple Express, Your Highness, and The Sitter. Now he is set for another genre change, signing onto tackle a remake of Dario Argento's 1977 Italian horror film Suspiria.
The original film is considered a classic of the horror genre, and this is the second stab by Green to make the film after a failed attempt in 2008, which was to star Natalie Portman. The story follows Suzy, an American ballet student, who transfers into a prestigious dance academy in Germany. Soon after she arrives, a series of brutal deaths rock the area and Suzy discovers her school is run by a coven of witches.
As well as directing the remake, Green will co-write the script with Chris Gebert. Shooting is set to begin in September, and casting is currently underway.
