With The Avengers just 20,160 minutes (yes, I’m counting) away from hitting the big screen on these shores (April 26th), Marvel have released a new clip from the hotly anticipated comic-book ensemble.
The clip features Downey Jr’s Iron Man and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki bouncing off each other, semi-confrontationally. Check it out below, courtesy of Empire.
What struck me is how both actors appear remarkably comfortable in their roles. In fact, the funniest aspect of the whole clip, to me, is how they interact with each other in such a relaxed manner. We’ve become conditioned, as a movie-going public, to expect confrontations of a biblical nature between villain and hero in comic book movies.
Joss Whedon (writer/director), based from this clip, at least, appears to be applying a sense of real-world conversation tone to a truly out-of-this world setting.
This kind of altering of audiences perceptions and expectations is what keeps genres fresh and puts a massive smile on my face :D
Finally, here’s a brief featurette, in which Whedon and co. outline what we can expect from the comic-book movie to end all comic-book movies!
