7 years after it's release, the long awaited sequel to Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's noir crime anthology Sin City is finally going ahead. With the original made for $40 million and making almost $159 million, it was inevitable a sequel would be made, but while a follow up has been on the cards for many years now, many stops and starts have made sure it never went ahead.
Now co-directors Rodriguez and Miller have announced the movie will finally go in front of the camera, with production starting in the summer. Titled Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, the film will be based on the second volume of Miller's comic series from where the movie got it's name and style. A Dame To Kill For is a prequel of sorts to The Big Fat Kill, Clive Owen's Dwight story in the original (Dwight's monologue about Marv being from a different time is lifted directly form A Dame To Kill For). This doesn't mean Clive Owen will return though, as Dwight undergoes plastic surgery during the story which makes him look like the man we've seen in the original. The story will see Dwight get mixed up with Ava, the wife of a local business man, leading to his life falling apart. While not official, it is expected the sequel will follow the original's three story format, combining A Dame To Kill For with two new stories created specially for the film.
Casting is scheduled to begin next week, and, with the story's prequel status, many of the original cast is expected to return, including Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Devon Akoi, and Michael Clarke Duncan.
