Tom Hardy compares The Dark Knight Rises' Bane to The Joker

The late Heath Ledger really created one of the most chilling performances ever as The Joker, a truly unique and original takes on a character we've seen many times before (but for my money the definitive Joker is still the Mark Hamill version from the Batman animated series and recent computer games), and one of the many strong points Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight had going for it. When it was announced that Tom Hardy's Bane, a once serious threat for the Dark Knight in the comic books but now relegated to B-list status villainy, would be facing off against Batman in the sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, it was taken as a given that comparisons would be made between him and Heath Ledger's psychotic clown.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Hardy himself compares the two villains, promising a very different threat for Christian Bale's Batman this time round, one that is that is almost an equal. "The Joker didn't care. He just wanted to see the world burn, and he was master of chaos and destruction, unscrupulous and crazy. Bane is not that guy", says the English actor, "There is a very meticulous and calculated way about Bane. There is a huge orchestration of organistion to his ambition. He is also a physical threat to Batman. There is nothing vague about Bane. No jokes. He's a very clean, clear villain."


Synopsis: Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, the terrorist leader Bane arrives in Gotham City, pushing it and its police force to their limits, forcing its former hero Batman to resurface after taking the fall for Harvey Dent's crimes.
