Released later this year, a new image has surfaced from Dredd, the second attempt to bring the comic book character to the big screen after 1995's Sylvester Stallone starring Judge Dredd failed to do justice to the property, showcasing Lena Heady (300, t.v.'s Game Of Thrones) as big bad Madeline 'Ma Ma' Madrigal. Described by the actress as "an old great white shark who is just waiting for someone bigger and stronger to show up and kill her", it's an interesting approach to the character, and one that I have no doubt she will absolutely nail. That, and she looks completely bad ass!
Directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point), from a script by Alex Garland (28 Days Later), the film is set in future city Mega City One, which is policed by The Judges, law enforcement officers who have the power to try and convict, and sometimes execute, on the spot. When a gang of drug dealers and murderers, led by Ma Ma, take over a high rise apartment block, a team of Judges, including Judge Dredd (Karl Urban), are sent in to secure it.
The film also stars Olivia Trilby and Domhnall Gleeson.
Released: 7th September 2012 (U.K./IRE)/ 21st September 2012 (U.S.)
