Deadline are reporting, via our own Entertainment.ie, that Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz have signed on for Ridley Scott’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s celebrated novel The Counselor.
The plot centres on a lawyer who decides to enter the realm of drug smuggling, presumably with dire consequences. I say ‘presumably’ because if everything went hunky-dory, it wouldn’t be much of a watch…
Reports suggest the stars will join the film in unconfirmed roles, with the exception of Pitt who will reportedly play the villain. The project, which already had the genius of Michael Fassbender involved, is scheduled to enter production shortly and apparently boasts a superbly impressive script – the first McCarthy, himself, has ever directly written for the screen.
If McCarthy’s recent adaptations (No Country for Old Men, The Road) are a barometer for the quality of this piece, then we are in for a cinematic feast.
