X-Men: First Class’s forthcoming sequel has been pencilled in for a 2014 release date, and it seems things are progressing smoothly at this early stage. With notable progress moving forward in the scriptwriting department, it appears the registration of a new title is could be a reliable indicatior of the movie’s direction in the storyline.
Reports suggest that Fox have registered the title Days Of Future Past with the MPAA, which is also the name of one of the most well known X-Men stories from the comic-books.
The storyline alternates between the present day and a future in which mutants are an outlawed species, following the assassination of Senator Kelly by Magneto and his band of not so merry mutants. A time-travelling Kitty Pryde manages to warn the X-Men of this potential disaster , and a race ensues to stop Magneto before it’s too late.
At this point, nothing has been confirmed by the studio, but it sounds as though this could be the story Matthew Vaughn is favouring for the upcoming sequel/prequel. Simon Kinberg (who also worked as a screenwriter on X-Men: The Last Stand) is leading the team of scriptwriters for this one so the signs are all positive. Time will tell on this one we will have to wait and see. The sequel is set to open in the US on 18 July 2014, with a UK and Irish date yet to be confirmed.
