The upcoming Reboot for Robocop has received a boost in the casting department. Reports are circulating that Jackie Earle Haley is set to sign up for the project. With Haley’s signature almost secured fans of the franchise will feel a bit more optimistic about where the project is heading, particularly in light of the names cast so far.
The New Robocop is set to feature Joel Kinnaman as Alex Murphy, the lawman gunned down who gets his body rebuilt as the cyborg supercop. Abbey Cornish is playing the role of Murphy’s wife with Gary Oldman having agreed to play Norton, the scientist who helped build our hero. In addition Samuel L Jackson is also signed on as Pat Novak as the media tycoon, Hugh Laurie completes the cast as the villain of the piece.
Haley will be playing Maddox, who trains Robocop to be a lean mean fighting machine, (yes pun intended, I wasn’t going to let that pass), so it wil differ from the original where Murphy was programmed to be a lawful enforcer.
Director Padilha will start shooting in September, with Toronto hosting many of the scenes in the movie. We wait with baited breath, we’ll keep an eye on this one here at the moviebit and keep you informed as always.
