According to reports from sources close to The Wolverine project, the casting is coming along nicely. In the lead role Hugh Jackman is said to be joined by Hiroyuki Sanada (he of Lost and Rush Hour 3 fame). In addition to this it has also been confirmed that he is to play a key role as Shingen,
Hal Yamanouchi who has appeared in such films as The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou,is set to take the role of Yashida. New starlets Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima will star as Mariko and Yukio.
Further details on the plot are under wraps for the moment but can’t be long before we get a plot summary and further information on casting. It is refreshing to see some genuine Japanese actors as the story unfolds in Japan.
While it is fair to say that none of these actors have a huge following outside of Japan, this could greatly change depending on the success of the film. Word is regarding the plot that the film is inspired by the celebrated Marvel comic book arc by Chris Claremont & Frank Miller. The Wolverine finds Logan, an eternal warrior and relative outsider, in Japan.
Inevitably the clash of and Samurai Swords can’t be far away, Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in a battle that will leave him changed forever. The set is due for a July 2013 release, stay tuned for more as they say…
