For those of us that are utterly appalled at the notion that there could ever be a sequel to the classic Raging Bull, a glimmer of hope lies in the horizon. According to reports the studio behind the original is filing a suit, MGM which own the rights to the Oscar winning Martin Scorcese flick has begun proceedings to halt production, thus ensuring that it never sees the light of day. Here here I say (in a somewhat very opinionated tone), some things should never be touched. It remains to this day an absolute classic and is on many people’s lists of all time favourite movies.
It is believed that the makers of Raging Bull 2 have secured rights from Jake La Motta, the man himself on which the film is based.
MGM are also infuriated that the possible sequel is being unreasonably associated with the original in a cynical attempt to drum up more publicity for the project. According to reports MGM want compensation damages and more "awarded in an amount sufficient to punish the defendants and to deter those who would commit or knowingly seek to profit from similar actions, now or in the future".
Robert De Niro and Martin Scorcese are not involved in any possible sequel, La Motta was the world middleweight champion from 1949 to 1951 and was nicknamed “The Bronx Bull”, the film is quite rightly regarded as one of America’s finest ever productions. This will run and run, as ever we’ll keep you posted here at themoviebit.com
