As reported previously, the long, loooooong in development Ghostbusters 3 got a new writing staff, replacing Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (Year One, Bad Teacher). Now it's been revealed that Etan Cohen, co-writer on Tropic Thunder and the awesome Idiocracy, and sole writer of Madagascar 2 and Men In Black 3, will be scripting the project.
Ghostbusters 3 has been on the cards for over twenty years, with Dan Ackroyd championing the project every step of the way. The movie, which seems to hinge on Bill Murray's involvement, has gone through several rewrites, with Murray, at one point refusing to do it because "No one wants to pay money to see old, fat men chasing ghost", saying recently that the script has to be perfect if is to have anything to do with it. With Cohen onboard, there is a chance this project could finally come together. He is a very talented writer, and has produced some extremely funny and entertaining scripts in his time. As for the story, Ackroyd has confirmed before that it will deal with a new generation of Ghostbusters taking over from the old gang, who have seen better days. It sounds alot like a big screen version of the old cartoon Extreme Ghostbusters, but, really, considering how long ago the original movies were released, it's the only way to go.
