Shooting doesn't begin on Jeff Wadlow's sequel to the smash hit Kick Ass till September 10th, but pre-production on the movie is in full swing with Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar commenting that the pre-visualiasation work on some of the fight scenes are "mind-blowing". With production staring in little over a week and a half, some house keeping is getting finished up with most of the cast already in place. Actors returning for the sequel (besides the big four of Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Nicholas Cage) are Yancy Butler as Angie D'Amico, mother of hero turned villain Red Mist (now going by the name The Motherf***er), and Lyndsey Fonseca as Katie Deauxma, Kick-Ass's girlfriend.
The character of Marcus Williams, last seen becoming the guardian of Mindy Macready (Hit-Girl), but no longer played by Omari Hardwick. Deadline reports that Morris Chestnut (Boyz In The Hood) has landed the role, which has been beefed up for the sequel.
While the involvement of Jim Carrey as the Colonel, leader of super hero team Justice Forever, is still up in the air, two members have recently been cast, joining Donald Faison as Doctor Gravity. Coming from Deadline again, Robert Emms (Warhorse, Mirror, Mirror) will don the slightly copy right infringing costume of Insect Man, while Lindy Booth (Wrong Turn, Dawn Of The Dead) will be taking on the role of Night-Bitch, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Now onto the villains. Coming from Bleeding Cool, British actor Andy Nyman has been cast as The Tumor, a member of the villainous Toxic Mega C**ts, who helps Chris D'Amico get revenge on the heroes for the events of the first film. Not known much outside of the U.K. (I will admit I have mistaken him for Nick Frost on more than one occasion), he is a fantastic actor, and has starred in Severance, and Zombies in the Big Brother House mini series Dead Set (if you haven't seen it, go watch it now!). Hopefully this role will get is name more well known. One villain role left to fill, and quite a big one at that (in every sense of the word), is Mother Russia, a former KGB agent hired by Chris to give his team some much needed muscle. Think Ivan Drago from Rocky IV with girl parts.
Released: 28th June 2013 (U.S.)/ 19th July 2013 (U.K./IRL)
