Filming has begun on the sequel to Thor, with Alan Taylor taking over directing duties from Kenneth Branagh. Not much is known about the story, other than it will show the fate of Loki after the events of The Avengers, and the Dark Elf world of Svarthalfheim will play a part, with Christopher Eccleston portraying the evil Dark Elf ruler, Malekith The Accursed. Returning for the film are Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, and Idris Elba, with other new faces being Zachary Levi replacing Josh Dallas as Fandral, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (who proved all manners of bad ass as Mr. Eko in Lost) as Dark Elf Algrim The Strong/Kurse.
Taylor, best known for directing several episodes of The Game Of Thrones, is said to be bringing a more Viking influenced feel to the movie, as opposed to the 'science as magic' present in the first film. This is evident from the set pictures below, taken at the Bourne Wood set in England, which show Jamie Alexander's Lady Sif in battle with strange creatures called Marauders. They also promise a more action packed second installment.

UPDATE New pictures have appeared showing the Thunder God himself on set, in what appeares to be a slightly altered costume from the original.
