Sure, the first Smurfs movie was the usual, special effects laden kiddie movie fare, but I actually ended up enjoying it far more than I should, and that was 100% to do with Hank Azaria's hilarious and inspired turn as Gargamel. So while I won't be rushing out to watch it, his return for the sequel, as a hit entertainer in Paris who needs the Smurf's power to return home (what do you expect? It's for kids), will make sure I will enjoy myself when I'm looking for something to keep my son happy during the windy, wet Irish summer of 2013. And he's bringing some new friends with him. Specifically the evil anti-Smurfs, The Naughties Vexy (Christina Ricci) and Hackus (JB Smoove). The design is pretty impressive, and there is no doubt the effects in this movie will sure be pretty.
