Fresh off his turn at remaking Total Recall, director Len Wiseman is expected to helm another remake, The Mummy. He will join producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (who know their reboots, having written the script for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek) and writer Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) in rebooting Universal's popular horror franchise, which started way back in 1932. The most familiar and popular incarnation started in 1999, re-imaging the series with more of a lean to action adventure, and led to two sequels and a spin off series, The Scorpion King.
Speaking of the reboot, Wiseman said, "It's a darker twist on the material, a scarier version", but it is still be geared as a family movie. The new incarnation is said to relocate the concept to a modern day setting, and author Michael Crichton (known for grounding out of this world and over the top concepts in science, such as Jurassic Park) is said to be an inspiration. This promises a much different take on the series than we have seen before.
